Appeal to your Taste: Part Two

A well-planned kitchen will serve up a lot of love over the years

19.03.2025

Have you ever wondered why you can walk into someone’s kitchen and instantly feel at ease?

When we visit friends and family, we often gravitate to the kitchen and that makes perfect sense. It’s the place the host is most likely to be found, it’s the hub of activity and the source of tantalising scents. And if you’re lucky it is where you might find some pre-meal snacks and maybe even a tipple.

But why are some kitchens more alluring than others?

A well-planned kitchen probably yields a relaxed host and maybe more tasty offerings. But it also has to look the part. These days, there’s no reason why your kitchen can’t be every bit as appealing as your favourite local bar and restaurant.

Now, The Fun Stuff!

Once you’ve made a plan for the kitchen of your dreams, it’s time to deck it out. It’s the engine room of the house, so make sure it has plenty of visual appeal.

Select finishes and designs that speak to your heart, not simply what is on the latest hot design list. There is always a way to work with your own personal style.

If you love the sterility of all white, go for it but make sure there’s plenty of interest in the way of textures and thoughtful extras.

And the same applies at the other end of the spectrum. Colour can instantly elevate mood, so if you want to feel inspired and upbeat, knock yourself out.

Don’t choose colours that are uber popular, it is almost certain you will tire of them. Instead go for hues that remind you of your favourite things.
