Spice It Up: Part Two

We asked a Perth family who are now enjoying a beautiful new kitchen to share their secrets of success

12.09.2018

Many homeowners dream of one day updating their kitchen to make everyday living and entertaining a breeze.

But there’s often something that stands in the way, whether it be finances, inconvenience or a lack of time due to the challenging pace of modern living. Many people are also not sure how to turn their dream into a reality and the pressure to get it right can be stressful given the hurdles that need to be overcome to get on to the starting blocks in the first place.

After adding a spectacular outdoor entertaining area to their home, Andrew and Vanessa Mollan knew it was finally time to tame their unruly kitchen which was in desperate need of a renovation.

“Our old kitchen was dated, small and pokey,” Vanessa says. “Being a family of four with two teenagers, we were all on top of each other in the kitchen so we knew we had to do something.”

Vanessa says she had her heart set on a spacious kitchen with plenty of storage.

“We knew we wanted it to be light and bright because it is situated in the middle of the home,” Andrew adds.

“It was also very blocked off, so we knew we wanted to open up the entire space to the lounge area and make it flow through the rest of the house. Bench space was also a priority and we liked the idea of an island bench that would accommodate the sink and enough room for all of us to sit around it while the meals were being prepared.”

Vanessa says the end result delivered everything she could have dreamed of and more. She says Veejay’s Renovations, who designed and built the kitchen, suggested that cupboard doors were outdated and instead installed mostly drawers.

“That was a really good suggestion and we love the end result. There’s a place for everything,” Andrew says.

“Those drawers, together with the island benchtop, the beautiful lighting and our stunning granite benchtop make this a dream kitchen and one that really has made our life so much easier on a day-to-day basis.”

Veejay’s, who designed and built the kitchen, suggested that cupboard doors were outdated and instead installed mostly drawers.

TOP TIP FROM VANESSA AND ANDREW

“Just do it. If you like where you live but the house is dragging you down and falling apart, then spending that money on renovation can give so much joy”, Andrew says. “It is so surprising what can be achieved in getting a company like Veejay’s Renovations to assist you on how and when to start. We never in a million years would have ever thought this was possible, to achieve such a stunning kitchen from what we started with was truly incredible and now we are staying in our home.”
